Welcome to Saint-Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, which provides education and conducts research in information technologies, fine mechanics and optics, and is well-known both in Russia and worldwide for over 100 years.

It was established in 1900 as a vocational school to train horologists, and then in 1933 transformed into the Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics (LIFMO). In 1994, in recognition of the dedicated work of its professors, researchers and staff members LIFMO got university status, and since 2003 it is known under its present name, the Saint-Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (University ITMO).
